The Unmentioned Couple (PART 1)

Kuweka (Keep in Swahili) and Shika (Retain in Swahili) - Teal-Quil Yes, Shika looks a lot like Nuka but there is a reason for this and it will be explained below.

The outsiders and Pridelanders where once again joined together. Of course as soon as the prides where joined families that had not spoken since the dark lions reign where overjoyed to see their mothers, brothers, sister, nieces, nefu's, cousins. However no one in the pridelands was happier than the Queen Nala. Nala apologized to her eldest daughter Vitani for not trying to get her back, for leaving her with Zira in the Outlands. That night Nala explained to Simba that Scar had forced her to mate with him to keep her brother Mhettu safe. Simba did not yell at Nala as she had thought he would. Instead, Simba welcomed Vitani as his step-daughter and promised to treat her as he would treat Kiara. 

Vitani however was less than pleased. All of these lioness making a fuss over her, even the king tried to talk to her and make a fuss. She just wanted to be left alone. 

Months passed and Nala was worried for her daughter. She knew that adjusting to life as one big pride would take time and thought that maybe Vitani was just shy. However, everyone else had settled and loved the life they had, the friends they'd gained, the harmony and piece of being one pride. Kiara talked to her mother and expressed a concern about Vitani. It wasn't just the Queen and the Princess who had noticed Vitani's separation. Others in the pride had as well and some people where worried that Vitani would turn out like her father, that history would repeat itself. Kiara agreed to give Vitani one more week. If she did not make more of an effort to talk to the others. Kiara would personally go to see her in the den below pride-rock. The one which Vitani had made her home. 

A week passed and no one had seen Vitani, she had skipped hunting duties three days in a row and missed her border patrol. Kiara was worried about Vitani not because she felt that she was going to become Scar 2.0. But because she knew how it felt to be alone. After her run in with Kovu as cub. The other cubs in the pride thought she was weird, the way she had spoken of this "nice outlander cub". Kiara walked into the den pausing for a moment as her ear pricked up "Shush!" she heard Vitani snap slightly. Kiara listened a little more as she heard...Mewing? Kiara ventured further into the den yelling out to her half-sister "Vitani! It's Kiara, I was wondering if we could talk." Kiara heard Vitani's voice, low and only just audible "Oh no." before a louder reply "K-kiara. Now is not a good time...Could you call back in 10...No! 20 minutes?" Kiara ignored Vitani's request as she turned a corner to see Vitani laid at the very back of the den with something...No, two some-things concealed in her forepaws. Vitani's eyes widened slightly "Kiara! Oh...I'm sorry..." Kiara took a closer look at Vitani, she looked pale, ill and underfed, she looked tired. Kiara sat in front of Vitani "Tani...What's been going on? The whole pride is worried about you. I'm worried about you...Most importantly your mother is worried about you." Vitani looked away and Kiara couldn't help but notice something move beneath Vitani's paw. After waiting for an answer and getting nothing, Kiara tried again "Vitani!" she paused realizing that she was yelling. Kiara cleared her throat "Vitani. Please. I want to help but I can't if I don't know what's going on." Kiara laid down in hopes to get a better look at whatever Vitani was hiding. However Vitani pulled away. As she did however something come out of her paws. Vitani looked horrified as she yelled "Shika come back hear!" Kiara's eyes widened slightly at the sight of a small grey cub wandering towards her. The cub sat in front of her. Kiara lowered her head as the cub laughed and clung to Kiara's muzzle. Kiara was speachless "Cubs...H-How..." Vitani growled slightly "It's nothing!" before she could react the grey cub was pulled from her muzzle and Vitani put it back in her paws. Kiara now saw another cub, this one had mucky blonde fur, darker than Vitani's. 

Kiara laid with Vitani in silence. Watching as she cleaned the cubs. After a while Vitani let out a sigh "They're Nuka's...Despite what everyone in our pride thought. Nuka was no Scar's son. Scar merely pitied Nuka seeing how weak, malnourished and small he was when born. Nuka and I were the only cubs in our pride...Apart from Kovu. When I was a cub, he would tease me because I looked more like a boy than I did a girl. However, we both got older and...Feeling developed. I...Nuka and I spent the night together..." Kiara looked confused "If he was part of your pride...How come he didn't join us?" Vitani stopped for a moment tears flooding into her eyes "He...Nuka was jealus of the attention Kovu got from Zira. I had been asked to spy on Kovu to make sure he was doing his job. I saw your father, Simba invite Kovu into the den and reported back to Zira, I told her what I had saw so we planned to attack Simba ourselves. Kovu was with Simba at the time. Our pride chased Simba into the gorge as Kovu watched from above. Simba tried to escape climbing the damn. Kovu fled when Zira asked him to get your father...Nuka saw his chance to prove his worth to his mother chasing Simba..." Vitani had to stop and compose herself. Kiara waited patiently not wanting to rush Vitani "He grabbed Simba's leg and Simba kicked him off, as he did a couple logs slipped from beneath him and...he was trapped breath them." Kiara looked horrified. Vitani gulped "I hid my pregnancy. During our fight when you stopped us. I sided with you because I was risking the life of my cubs for a stupid reason. The pridelands should belong to a pride not one king or queen. Zira was crazy because of her devotion to Scar and none of us realized that..." Shika walked over to Kiara again and Vitani smiled slightly as a single tear escaped her eye and ran down her cheek "Just like her daddy, she's been trying to prove how strong she is walking about and trying to get away for two days now." Vitani sighed "I know that I avoided my duties. I'm sorry...I just didn't want to leave my cubs. They're all I have left of Nuka." Vitani finally met Kiara's gaze as Kiara smiled kindly at her. Kiara stood up and used her paw to hold Shika for a moment "Come back to Priderock with me. I mean all the way as well, to the den were everyone else sleeps. You'll be safe there and we will all help you look after these two beauties. After all, it can't have been easy to go through labour all on your own, to hunt in secret so you can provide these two milk." Vitani lets out a slight sigh "I...Alright...I'm just a little anxious as too what mum will say." Kiara laughed "She loves cubs, I'm sure she'll be more than happy." Kiara picked up Shika as Vitani picked up Kuweka. Kiara walked by Vitani's side as they walked to the top of pride rock. 

Vitani laid down outside the den and Kiara gave Shika back to her mother. She nodded with a kind smile "I'll go get mum and dad." Kiara left into the den as Kovu passed her. Kovu looked to Vitani and half smiled "Tani! You're alright." Vitani's ears pinned back "Kovu...I can explain." Kovu sat in front of Vitani and stared down at the cubs in her paws "N-Nuka's?" he asked shakily as though he wanted to be proved wrong. Vitani nodded "Yes..." Kovu looked sad, guilt in his eyes "Nuka...He's dead and...It's my fault. Vitani...I'm so-so." Vitani cut Kovu off "It's not your fault Kovu...Nuka just wanted Zira to show him some attention for once instead of her only focusing on you. If anyone is at fault, it's Zira for not bothering to care for her own son now and again." Nala and Simba left pride-rock followed by Kiara. Vitani looked to her mother as Nala nuzzled her. Vitani began to cry, she hated looking weak and crying in front of anyone. But this time she couldn't help it "I'm so sorry mum...I should have told you..." Nala shushed her daughter "You've nothing to be sorry for Tani." Nala laid in front of Vitani and smiled hugely "Now let me see my gorgeous grandcubs." Simba laughed a little shaking his head "I wouldn't Vitani. You won't get them back." Vitani smiled slightly a small chuckle coming from her as she moved her paws allowing her cubs to be on show.
